Public Health Insurance (NFZ)<\/strong> \u2013 funded by health insurance premiums. <strong>2. Private Insurance<\/strong> \u2013 a voluntary insurance policy purchased from an insurance company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Private insurance policy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>does not provide access to public health care,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>does not entitle you to a free visit to a public hospital,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>It covers only those benefits that are specified in the terms and conditions of the contract (General Terms and Conditions).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National Health Fund (NFZ):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>allows you to receive free medical care at public facilities,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>operates on the basis of fixed premiums,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>It is the only form of universal insurance in Poland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does a private insurance policy allow you to use the National Health Fund (NFZ)?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No.<\/strong> Private health insurance\u2014even with very comprehensive coverage\u2014does not replace the National Health Fund (NFZ) and does not entitle you to use the public health care system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a foreign national has a private insurance policy, then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>may only use private facilities and services specified in the policy,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>must pay the National Health Fund (NFZ) for each public service if they are not eligible for public coverage,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>He cannot be admitted to a public hospital \u201ethrough the National Health Fund.\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only exceptions are <strong>life-threatening emergencies<\/strong>, when the patient receives treatment, but the hospital may later request reimbursement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is a foreign national eligible for coverage under the National Health Fund (NFZ)?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A foreign national may use the National Health Fund (NFZ) only in certain situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Working under a Polish employment contract<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The employer automatically registers the employee with the National Health Fund (NFZ). The employee is entitled to full health care under the same terms as those applicable to Polish citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. A contract for services with a sufficiently high salary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contributions may also be paid to the National Health Fund (NFZ) if the contract is subject to contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Business Activities in Poland<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entrepreneur registers with ZUS on his or her own. After paying the health insurance premium, he or she becomes eligible for NFZ coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Student Status<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International students may enter into a voluntary agreement with the National Health Fund (NFZ) or be enrolled by their university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Family members of the insured person<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A child, spouse, or dependent may be added to the insurance policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Voluntary Insurance with the National Health Fund (NFZ)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any foreigner legally residing in Poland may purchase voluntary NFZ insurance; however:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is necessary to have <strong>PESEL<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>the premium is relatively high,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>The contract requires additional paperwork.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It's a more complicated process than buying a private insurance policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why do many foreigners choose private insurance?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most foreigners coming to Poland <strong>is not immediately eligible for the National Health Fund (NFZ)<\/strong>. That is why the most common choice is a private <strong>Health Insurance for Foreigners in Poland<\/strong>, which:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>meets the visa and residency requirements (minimum of 30,000 euros),<\/li>\n\n\n<li>can be purchased online,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>works right away,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>It is accepted with a residence card.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most highly recommended policies are available here: <strong><a href=\"\/en\/travel-health-and-corporate-life\/insurance-for-foreigners-required-for-visas-and-residence-cards\/\">KL Insurance for Foreigners: For Visas and Residence Cards<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about a residence card? Private insurance is mandatory<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply for a residence card, a foreign national must submit <strong>Important Private Health Insurance<\/strong>, unless they have NFZ insurance (through their job or as a student). The office requires a policy that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>covers the cost of medical treatment and hospitalization,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>has a total of at least <strong>30,000 euros<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>operates in Poland,<\/li>\n\n\n<li>is valid for the entire duration of the stay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Details are described here: class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it worth having both NFZ and private insurance at the same time?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes\u2014this is the option chosen by many foreigners who work or study in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NFZ<\/strong> provides access to public institutions. <strong>Private Insurance<\/strong> provides quick access to specialists, medical tests, and hospitals without waiting in line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both types of insurance operate independently and complement each other
