Green Card Insurance at Uniqa

Green Card insurance is required, among other places, for trips to Ukraine, Albania, Macedonia, and Moldova. It’s an optional add-on to liability insurance, starting at 20 zł per year.

Benefits of Green Card insurance:

This coverage protects you against liability for damages caused to third parties outside the country while driving a vehicle. You can purchase the Green Card as an add-on to your liability insurance starting at 20 zł per year.

The Green Card is also a document that confirms the existence of an insurance policy. It covers the civil liability of the vehicle owner or driver for damages caused to third parties resulting from the operation of the vehicle outside Poland in countries that are part of the Green Card system. The countries where this insurance is valid are listed in the insurance document.

The insurance company from which the Green Card was purchased assumes liability and, in the event of a loss, is obligated to pay compensation in the amount specified in the insurance contract or within the legal limits of the country where the incident occurred.

In which countries is Green Card insurance required?

  • The Green Card is the insurance required when traveling by car to: Albania, Azerbaijan, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine. The Green Card covers all of the countries listed. Russia and Belarus (as of June 1, 2022) and Israel (as of January 1, 2022) are no longer part of the Green Card system—you must purchase border insurance before entering these countries.
  • A Green Card is not required when traveling by vehicle in the following European countries: Austria, Andorra, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Italy, and Hungary. In these countries, a valid liability insurance policy is sufficient.

Why the „Green” Card?

The Green Card insurance policy has only one graphic design, which is valid in all countries. The paper used to print the policy is green, which is where the name comes from. In addition to the color of the paper, there is an additional rule regarding language—the policy is issued in the national language of the country where the insurance company operates and in one of two official languages, namely English or French. As of July 1, 2021, the Green Card has a new design: it is a white A4-sized card and can be provided to the customer electronically for self-printing.
